One-time setup of the RTM device or system and education on its use, billed once per episode of care.
Time threshold & code combinations
Billed once per episode of care; requires the patient to subsequently collect at least 16 days of data in the following 30-day period.
- Billed once per episode, not monthly like 98976/98977
Who can bill
- Physicians and non-physician practitioners who can bill E/M services
- Physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists furnishing RTM under a therapy plan of care
Eligibility & billing requirements
- New RTM episode of care for a qualifying musculoskeletal or respiratory condition
- Patient education on device/system use documented at setup
- Not billed again for the same episode once setup is complete
When to use it
New post-surgical rehab monitoring program
A patient recovering from knee surgery is set up with an app that tracks exercise adherence and pain levels, with the practitioner walking them through setup.
