Extended Workflow Automation
Find the work. Route the work. Capture the work. Extended Workflow Automation covers both directions of between-visit patient work. AI Receptionist captures what patients bring to you by phone. Automate Care Tasks proactively reach patients by text for follow-up, check-ins, and questionnaires. When an interaction needs staff, Chronii routes it into the same central workflow your team is already used to, so qualifying time and documentation can be captured.

What is included
| AI Receptionist | Handles inbound patient calls, answers routine clinic questions, gathers structured information, takes detailed messages, and identifies requests that need staff follow-up. |
|---|---|
| Inbound care-work capture | Connects patient-generated requests to the patient's Chronii workflow so clinical staff knows when follow-up should happen through the EHR-embedded application. |
| Automate Care Tasks | Proactively reaches patients by SMS for care-plan follow-up, check-ins, questionnaires, reminders, and other patient-specific tasks. |
| AI-guided SMS conversations | Chronii can ask follow-up questions, collect responses, and determine when something needs staff attention, not just send a one-way reminder. |
| Two-way SMS | Allows staff to continue patient conversations through Chronii when texting is appropriate. |
| Structured staff handoff | Gives staff the context gathered by AI before they begin their own work. |
| Care-program recognition | Surfaces when a patient participates in ongoing or chronic care so staff can use the appropriate workflow. |
| Existing Chronii time capture | When qualifying clinical work is performed by staff through Chronii, the existing time and documentation workflow can capture that activity. |

What this add-on does not do
These boundaries are intentional. The AI's role is to interact, collect, structure, and route. Your care team's role is to review, decide, act, and provide care.
- It does not replace the clinic's main telephone system or main phone number.
- It does not force patients to learn a new voice number.
- It does not handle every non-patient caller or replace every front-desk function.
- It does not provide live AI-to-human call transfers.
- It does not replace the clinic's scheduling system.
- It does not independently diagnose patients or change treatment.
- It does not treat AI interaction time as clinical staff time, or make every response billable.
- It does not replace the clinical judgment required to decide what should happen next.
Automate Care Tasks
Proactively reaches patients and surfaces the work that needs to happen.
See how it worksFAQ
Does this replace our clinic's phone system?
No. Patients keep calling the number they already know. The clinic adds a branch to its existing phone menu (for example, "for patient questions and care requests, press 1") that routes to Chronii. The main number, provider, IVR, front desk, and voicemail all stay exactly where they are.
Is AI call or text time billable staff time?
No. AI intake, whether by phone or SMS, is not treated as clinical staff time. It identifies the patient, understands the need, and creates structured work. When a qualifying staff member subsequently performs the resulting care work through Chronii, that human time can be captured.
What happens past 250 calls or 100 SMS workflows in a month?
Those are the volumes included in the $149/month price. Usage beyond them is billed separately.
Does this require a specific EHR?
No. AI Receptionist and Automate Care Tasks work with any clinic on Chronii today. Having the AI schedule appointments directly in your EHR, instead of just handing the request to staff, is on our roadmap for clinics on Athenahealth, DrChrono, eClinicalWorks, Elation, NextGen Enterprise, and TouchWorks.
Does every patient call or text create work for staff?
No. If the AI can fully resolve the need, such as answering a routine question about hours or location, the interaction closes with no staff involvement. Only requests that actually need a person become structured work.
